Wild Animal Pathways of The Santa Fe Institute
Equipped with a low-light video camera and a kwinmoori of fuzzy jackalope decoys I set about recording wildlife on the dynamic animal pathways of the Santa Fe Institute.
The camera is a basic trail cam which triggers on movement. It runs unattended full-time and records in the near-infrared at night.
The jackalope decoys are imported from Asia and work to pique curiosity and help in slowing down the animals who will often stop, sniff and leave scent.
So far I have recorded foxes, many coyotes, herds of deer, an eight point buck, fawns, various types of mice and rats, squirrels, raccoons, feral cats, all sorts of birds, a road runner, a conventicle of magpies, some large insects, lizards and many other things. Some of the creatures are residents of the campus and some were just passing through.
Sometimes interesting interactions happen as well.
Scroll down for a sampler of images and movies. I have scores of specimens to process. Proper catalog to follow in time.
